Towing a caravan this summer? Here’s what you need to know
If you're looking to tow a caravan this summer, here's what you need to know before you head off on your holidays.
To tow a caravan or indeed any trailer you are required to have Category B+E entitlement on your driving licence.
If you check your driving licence and you passed your test before the 1st of January 1997 you are already entitled to tow a caravan with a combined weight including your car of up to 3500kg.
Most modern caravans are well under this weight. If you need to tow above 3500kg you are required to pass you Cat C+E test.
If you passed your test after the 1st of January 1997 you are required by law to gain Category B+E entitlement in order to tow a caravan.
At Truck Training UK we offer Cat B+E caravan towing training and tests. Our caravan driving course is a practical, hand-on course which you can take use your own vehicle and caravan. If you don't have this you are welcome to use our trailer.
Our course demonstrates all the practical skills required for safe towing including manoeuvring and reversing. We will also show how to safely couple and decouple your caravan. At the end of the course you will take your Cat B+E test and hopefully gain the entitlement to your licence.
